4 Tips – for Uni Open Days

The open days are brilliant. This year they are starting in March with UWA and ECU in Bunbury and they will go on until August.

Tip 1: Play some games

MyFuture  or the Curtin Campus Quest game can help you to clarify if you should be a rocket scientist or a tap dancer.

Many courses are run at ALL universities. Once you know which general direction to take you can narrow down your research to specific courses.

Tip 2: You don’t need to go to ALL of the open days

Deciding WHAT you want to study is the hard bit.

Then you need to decide WHERE you want to study. Check out the universities closest to you at their open days.

Ask the students what they think.

Look at the displays.

Listen to some talks.

Talk to your career advisors.

Tip 3: Check out unis and courses online

At the Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT)  site you will be able to see what last year’s students thought of the university you are checking out and course you are considering.

There is a function where you can choose the same course at different unis and compare what last year’s students thought.

Tip 4: Which Uni to Choose?

You can get and overview of WA unis and what they are like at Which Uni is Best for You.

In Focus Careers Newsletter Testimonial:

I loved this month’s newsletter! There were so many useful links that I’m going to use, like the Logistics Training Council publications and the Future skills Framework infographic on our demographic. So much handy information – I even signed up for the Public Sector Commissions job search so that I can pass opportunities for traineeships onto students.
